Safety is one of the main concerns when travelling. There are some countries where police are nowhere as effective as you expect them to be. Hell, in my native country (Venezuela), we would rather run into thieves than cops. But here in Chile, you should feel more than safe knowing that chilean police are currently ranked at 3rd in reliability on the Global Competitiveness Report of 2015.
With a score of 6.3 in a scale of 1 to 7, the police corps of Chile share the 3rd spot in realibility along with Qatar. This report rates 144 of the main economies in the world. Chile in this case is above average amongst almost all of them, since the average score is 4.2. The only countries ranking higher than Chile are Finland with a 6.7 and New Zealand with a 6.5
Chile also ranks as #1 in Latinoamerica in economical competitiveness and 33 in the world rank.
